President’s Message

Hi Everyone,

Well, only two of our four schedule High School Speech Contest students were able to make it to our club last Tuesday.  What could have been a disappointment turned out to be a quite a treat as both the students’ speeches were very good and very close, separated by only one (1) point in the end.  All in all, a very good club speech contest.

On Tuesday at our luncheon, we are looking forward to hearing about our two (2) service opportunities, Western Gateway Park Bike Park and the North Star House Heritage Garden.  So those who attended those work days, please be ready to give us an update.

For those of you who signed up for the Rotary Area 4 Annual Community Awards Dinner, Wednesday, March 20th, at 5:30PM, please remember to go.  The event will be held at the Foothill Event Center.

The last day to sign up for Penn Valley Distinguished Citizen’s Award Dinner on Friday, 29 March 2019 is Thursday 21 March. The final number has to be given to the LWW Events Manager on the 22nd of March. Seats are still available so get your reservation in as soon as possible, that is if you have not reserved seats by now.

One item of business from our Club Board Meeting will require member input this coming meeting.  We are losing money every luncheon and the amount is nearly $1,000 for the year to date.  This is draining our treasury and could get dangerously low. Your input will be requested on increasing the lunch cost to $15.00. That way we can get close to even on the meal cost over the next year.

See you on Tuesday, 19 March 2019, noon at Player’s Pizza.

Western Gateway Bike Workday
Onsite reporting by Bob Kline
Wow !  What a great turnout for the initial Bike park site prep this Saturday.  At least 30 BONC members and about 20 other bike sympaticos.  One family came all the way from Truckee.  Joanie, Carle, Debbi and Lindy showed to lend a hand in the clearing, cutting, raking and sawing trees, shrubs and accumulated leaves, etc.  A lot was accomplished with 6 chain saws, 2 macerators. a stumper and 2 branch eaters.  There were plenty of tools  for volunteers (Rakes, hand saws. loppers, shovels and trimmers) so it was pick your tool and follow the team leader’s instructions.  Safety briefs were conducted before we started and all had to sign liability releases for the Park. By 3 PM, it was clear that all tracks were clear enough to meet the finish contractor’s start up requirements.  With BONC and parental permissions, Carle took lots of video for future editing and broadcast on TV channel 11.   It was super-successful. More to follow soon.
